General PEMF questions

What is PEMF?

PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field. A coil is pulsed with current, which generates a brief, rising-and-falling magnetic field; that field, in turn, induces a small electrical current in whatever tissue or material sits inside it. It’s the same underlying physics as a transformer — electromagnetic induction — applied to a coil you can position near your body instead of inside a circuit board. We go into the history and research in more depth on our blog, starting with What Is PEMF Therapy?

Are Sacred Geometry devices FDA-approved medical devices?

No, and we want to be upfront about that. PEMF technology has real FDA clearances — for non-union bone fractures since 1979, adjunctive cervical spinal fusion, and postoperative pain/edema since 2008 — but those clearances belong to specific, purpose-built medical devices used under clinical protocols. Our products are wellness and hobbyist devices, not medical devices. They’re not evaluated by the FDA and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Is there real research behind PEMF, or is this pseudoscience?

There’s a genuine, decades-long research base — it’s just narrower than a lot of marketing implies. We’ve written up the actual evidence, sourced, in Frequency Healing 101 and From Fringe to FDA. Short version: strong evidence for bone healing and reasonable evidence for pain/inflammation, thinner and more preliminary evidence for things like sleep, and some frequency systems (Solfeggio, Schumann resonance) that are traditional/cultural rather than clinically studied at all. We try hard not to blur those categories together.

Safety

Who shouldn’t use a PEMF device?

Do not use any PEMF device, including ours, if you have a pacemaker, defibrillator, insulin pump, cochlear implant, or any other implanted electronic device — electromagnetic interference is a real risk to how those devices function. PEMF is also considered an absolute contraindication during pregnancy, due to a lack of safety data on fetal development. If you have epilepsy or another seizure disorder, active cancer, or a bleeding disorder, talk to a doctor before using any electromagnetic device.

Are there side effects?

Clinical literature on FDA-cleared PEMF devices generally reports minor, infrequent side effects (occasional skin redness at most) and no serious adverse events. That’s a reasonable baseline expectation, but it describes the medical-device studies, not a guarantee about consumer use — if you notice anything that concerns you, stop use and consult a doctor.

SG102 technical specs

What’s the max wattage / power draw of the SG102?

The SG102 ships with a 24V, 10A power adapter — 240W maximum draw from the wall. That’s the input ceiling; the unit’s own output voltage and current are both adjustable, so actual delivery to your coil depends on your settings and the coil’s impedance, not a fixed 24V/10A output.

What’s the frequency range?

1 Hz to 150 kHz, fully adjustable. That covers essentially the entire range referenced in PEMF clinical research (roughly 1–75 Hz across bone healing, pain, and sleep-adjacent studies) with plenty of headroom above it for your own experimentation.

How many output channels does it have, and can I run them independently?

Three parallel output channels, so you can drive multiple coils simultaneously or build a multi-field array. Duty cycle (pulse intensity, 0–100%) is adjustable to fine-tune power delivery.

Does it come with coils?

No — the SG102 is a control unit only, built to drive your own compatible electromagnetic coils, Helmholtz pairs, or mats. Because its output voltage and current are both adjustable, it works with a broad range of coil specs rather than requiring hardware rated specifically for 24V — just stay within your coil’s own rated limits. If you’re looking for a coil to pair with it, see our Rodin coil devices.

Is it safe to run at full power for long sessions?

The unit has integrated thermal management for high-power use and a built-in fuse for overcurrent protection. That said, always check your specific coil’s rated current before running it at high duty cycle for extended periods, and refer to the Owner’s Manual for full operating guidance.

Which frequencies are good for what?

This is the question we get asked most, and the honest answer is: it depends on whether you want the clinically-researched range or the traditional/energetic frameworks — they’re different things, and we think you deserve to know which is which. Full detail and sources in Frequency Healing 101; the short version:

  • ~15 Hz — the specific frequency most FDA-cleared bone growth stimulators use; broader bone research spans roughly 1.5–75 Hz at medium intensity (15–30 Gauss).
  • 1–10 Hz range, low intensity (1–10 Gauss) — the general band studied in pain and inflammation research (knee osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, low back pain, soft tissue injury).
  • ~1–4 Hz — the range some preliminary sleep-related research has looked at, in the same range as delta brainwave activity. Thinner evidence base than the two above — treat as exploratory.
  • ~15–30 Hz — a secondary thread in the literature associated with muscle relaxation.
  • Solfeggio tones (e.g. 396 Hz, 528 Hz) and the Schumann resonance (~7.83 Hz) — traditional and cultural frameworks, not clinical research. The Schumann resonance itself is a real, measured geophysical phenomenon; the specific health claims attached to it are not something science has established.

None of the above is medical advice, and it’s not a claim that any Sacred Geometry product treats, cures, or prevents any condition. It’s a summary of where the actual evidence stands so you can make an informed choice about your own experimentation.
